Clinical trials are imperative to generate the evidence base needed to close those gaps that exist amongst people living with HIV/AIDS, specifically in vulnerable populations which include adolescents, females (that are pregnant or of child-bearing potential) and those co-infected with hepatitis and tuberculosis.The availability of scientific data from clinical trials will inform (i) global and national guidelines; (ii) improve regulatory processes and pathways for newly approved ARTs and (iii) improve access and treatment outcomes for patients.
